The story behind the shift.
A lifetime of learning and innovation, inspired by personal challenges and thousands of transformations
Where It All Began
Nearly 30 years ago, I graduated from Lancaster University with a degree in Psychology, igniting a lifelong fascination with the human mind. Unlike many therapists who specialize in a single approach, I’ve dedicated my career to exploring and integrating the most effective methods for creating rapid, lasting change.
But my journey didn’t follow the typical path into therapy. After university, I initially pursued a career in IT—an environment where analytical thinking and problem-solving were essential. Working in that field sharpened my ability to break down complex problems and find solutions quickly. Later, I also became a professional psychological magician, exploring how perception shapes reality and how small shifts in thinking can create profound changes in experience.
At first glance, these fields might seem worlds apart from therapy, but they shaped how I work today. In IT, I learned to think systematically—understanding that even the most complex systems have leverage points where small changes can create a ripple effect. In psychological magic, I discovered how people’s minds are far more flexible than they realize and that transformation can happen in an instant when the right conditions are met.
But while I had learned how change could happen, I didn’t yet know how to apply it to myself. My deeper journey began during my university years, though not in the classroom. A series of difficult experiences over a short period left me grappling with high anxiety and depression. Talking about my struggles only seemed to make things worse, leaving me feeling stuck and misunderstood.
I eventually found my way through this dark period with exercise and self-development, but the experience left an indelible mark on me. I wouldn’t wish such suffering on anyone, and it fueled my determination to find better ways to help others.

Shaping A New Approach
Years later, while working with teenagers in specialist schools—young people whose emotional and behavioral difficulties made mainstream education impossible—I had a pivotal moment that reshaped my approach.
One young man, who had endured severe physical abuse but was now safe and loved by his adoptive family, shared something that struck me deeply: “I know logically that I’m safe, but I feel like something terrible is about to happen at any moment.” Despite understanding his fears were irrational, the overwhelming sense of danger remained.
I had seen this countless times before, but in that moment, it became undeniable—logic alone couldn’t overwrite the emotional imprint of past experiences. For people like him, and many others, traditional approaches that focused on talking or challenging thoughts simply weren’t enough.
This reinforced something I had long understood from psychological magic: belief isn’t just shaped by logic—it’s shaped by emotion and perception. Just as a powerful illusion can make the impossible feel real, our minds construct emotional realities that persist beyond rational understanding. To create lasting change, I needed to go deeper—not just challenging thoughts, but rewiring the emotional roots of perception and belief.

Innovating And Refining
I began exploring methods beyond traditional cognitive approaches—ones that didn’t rely solely on effortful thinking or prolonged discussion of painful memories. This led me to memory reconsolidation-based treatments, such as eye movement therapies, which could quickly “decharge” emotionally intense memories. Time and again, I saw clients shift from distress to calm in a matter of minutes.
But working in such a challenging environment required constant innovation. Some clients couldn’t tolerate eye movements; others were too traumatized to think directly about their past. These limitations pushed me to refine and develop new approaches—methods that achieved the same transformative results without forcing clients to relive their pain.
My background played a key role in this. In IT, I learned to spot patterns and identify leverage points for rapid change—a mindset I applied to refining my techniques with precision. Psychological magic taught me how small, intentional shifts in attention, association, or mental framing could open the door to profound emotional change. Instead of relying on traditional distraction techniques, I began designing methods that harness the brain’s natural ability for rapid transformation.
A Vision For The Future
Today, I use techniques grounded in memory reconsolidation science to help clients reset emotional responses quickly and gently—without needing to relive painful experiences. This has been a game-changer, especially for children who are too distressed to talk about their past but still need a way to feel better.
Beyond one-on-one sessions, I’ve developed self-guided tools that empower people to manage their emotions independently. These go far beyond simple deep breathing or distraction techniques, providing practical, effective strategies for navigating even the most difficult moments.
Looking ahead, my goal is to make these transformative techniques even more accessible. Whether through an app, new training programs, or expanded resources, I want to ensure that anyone—no matter where they are—can experience real, lasting relief
